How fundraisers keep the Islamic State alive
The Islamic State caliphate may have fallen in 2019 but the underlying problems have not been solved. IS is merely sleeping and remains a danger in the Middle East. As journalists in the region tell me, in many ways IS will likely serve as the manifestation of Sunni discontent in Iraq and Syria. Recently, they have reappeared in Daraa al-Balad in Southern Syria.
