Untold Stories and Forgotten Wars - Reporting Amid Disinformation
Join us in London for this special New Lines event at Mortimer House, exploring investigative journalism and reporting from conflict zones
About this event
In many parts of the world, the truth is fiercely contested and groups will fight hard to keep it hidden. At the same time, these big stories are often the hardest to report, trickling out one report or broadcast at a time to an audience already overwhelmed by information. How to find the truth of a story and translate it for a wider audience is a key task of modern journalism.
In this New Lines event, BBC Radio 4’s Chloe Hadjimatheou and The Economist’s Tom Gardner join New Lines editors Tam Hussein and Lydia Wilson to discuss how they found themselves reporting on complex stories, from Syrian disinformation campaigns to intractable conflicts in Africa; what it’s like to cover a story that governments have an interest in covering up; how it feels to be victims of disinformation – and how to find the truth in the midst of wars of information.
