For sure, most adopted the Afghan cause as it stung the Soviets but many of us developed a lifelong interest in the country, its people and it's issues - some wondrous, some perplexing and far too many quite terrifying. I do hope that over time, more are willing to rediscover a more curious and thoughtful attitude than the absolutism of the 21st century.
